Marcus Ahnve: Taylorism And Mass Production - Why The Software Factory Fails

by Anna Kulakowska

A very interesting discourse presented the basic ideas of mass production, originally laid down by Frederick Taylor. Frederick Taylor created so-called scientific management. His theory was a result of experimental approach to welding factory. The new ideas in managing performance, resources become the core of management theories.

Even though the IT industry is much more complex than the welding company, numerous IT organizations are still managed like factories.

Even though the work of a software developer is significantly more complex and extremely difficult to measure, at numerous IT companies, the performance is measured in the lines of codes…

In today’s fast-paced and innovation driven IT world, there is not much space for best practices. We need to be agile and flexible. Individuals need to explore and advance, probe, sense, and respond. The talent pool is what really counts and why so many of us hear about resources?
