Adopting Agile

The story starts at the end of 2010, at the time when I joined Barclays Capital as a Senior Software Engineer in the EFS Funds IT team. The team consisted of three distributed sub-teams based in New York, London and Prague. The methodology used for development was relying on some Agile practices (taken from Scrum, XP, etc) and tweaked to fit in the existing process.

It’s enough to say that we were far from Agile.

At the end of 2011, the whole team had an official training in Agile and Scrum. It served as and eye opener and we made significant changes in all aspects of our process.

The presentation will focus on the things we were doing wrong and the impediments we faced on our way to becoming truly Agile.

Some of the covered topics:
 - Combining more roles in one person
 - Struggles with Definition of Done
 - Transitioning to Self-organizing team
 - (Guess)Estimates and Velocity
 - Distributed Teams and Scrum of Scrums
